I think we already know the answer is you want a bang, after all you want your guests to remember your wedding as the wedding the best they have been to! So what’s the best way to do this? Amongst other thing, finish on a big bang!

Sometime we are asked to start a wedding disco relatively early, around 6 pm and finish quite late, around 1 am. To some this may sound like a great idea, I mean who wouldn’t want 6 hours of non-stop partying… however the problem is that often after a long eventful day your guests will often start to feel that all the enjoyment is slowly taking it toll on them, so they start to feel tired, especially so after a beautiful 3 course meal topped off with some delicious wedding cake – that concoction would make anyone feel like their eye lids are getting heavy. But fear not, we have a tendency to perk up any party, but that’s not to say that some due attention is needed when thinking about what times you should start and finish your disco.

Generally you don’t need to determine your start time as that’s usually an hour after the meal (if the venue are having a turn around and you wish for a short refreshing break) as for the finish time…. well, whilst there is no optimal or maximum time your guest will keep on dancing, we generally find that a 4 hour wedding disco is about the right balance. You and your guests will get 4 non-stop hours of musical enjoyment and wedding entertainment which should leave any one’s feet feeling a bit sore (let alone anyone who has had a busy day!) whilst not going on for too long.

However if you decided to go on for a bit longer, from our experience what we have noticed is actually rather than stay till the end, guests slowly drop off and depart. This of course means that actually your event has finish slowly in a fizzle with the remaining few guests, rather than having all your friends and family surround you in a grand circle creating a truly magical moment and that big bang of a finish.

If you can imagine its a lot easier for a guest to say “there’s only 30 minutes, lets stay till the end” rather than “there’s still another hour and a half left, lets get our coat, say goodbye and make our way”.

So hopefully you can see how the difference in an hours extra music actually isn’t always best. Don’t get me wrong, if you want to party on till the early hours we will make that happen for you and will strive to do the best job we can – just spare a thought the fizzle or bang idea!

It was not long ago that unions were made official at just about any church with its doors open. Nowadays, there is a tremendous amount of planning and an obsession with perfection when it comes to carrying out that wonderful day. With an influx of registry offices, just about any location for a wedding becomes feasible: helicopters, waterfalls, boats, beautiful environmental landscapes, etc. generally speaking, couples seek adventure when it comes to choosing a venue for that perfect day. Moreover, couples nowadays are evaluating their guests’ needs before deciding on the venue. Many friends of the bride or groom may be huge fans of disco and may want create a wedding disco area for the guests, or perhaps some guests may enjoy a standard wedding DJ. Either way, all of theses options should be explored, costs should be analysed, and a rough list of attendees should be created beforehand.

As long as the venue is legal, couples are choosing off-the-wall places to become hitched. Even though there is an incredible amount of adventure with today’s couples, many still prefer to be married inside. Another extremely popular venue is in a castle, or a historic site, an elaborate manor of some kind, or just about any area with the perfect ambience, vibe, décor, etc. Many couples choose a garden to be the perfect environment for what it represents: a new beginning, a new life, flourishing, abundance, and fragrance. Beaches and lakesides are popular to many and can even be affordable if planned in advance.

One very important aspect for brides and grooms is to understand the fact that it may rain on their beautiful day, and if this is the case, an indoor wedding will easily solve this potential problem. A lot of people are seeking weddings abroad, as many companies offer deals that promise to accommodate each-and-every guest, and especially the bride and groom to be. Couples should keep in mind that tropical settings can serve as not only the venue for the wedding, but also as the place for the honeymoon.

A popular method of providing entertaining in this modern world is to set it up so that an iPod will play the music. It may be difficult to exclude an old friend that has played music through the night and day, on plane rides and car drives, but it should be considered. After all, there are many reasons why using one probably isn’t a good idea.

For one thing, there is a good chance the setup will have a mind of its own, and not do what you want that crucial moment. The guests – standing around, the bubbles in their wine glasses falling one by one – while the groom or a member of the bridal party fumbles to figure out what’s wrong with it. As their eyes seem to bore into the back of your head, an embarrassing song by a group you didn’t want people to know you like starts to play. Somehow, the shuffle option has been selected, instead of a special playlist you created for the occasion.

Another downside to using an iPod as Wedding Entertainment is that it doesn’t quite set the right mood. That tiny box sitting on a chair in the corner will not do much to get the guest’s legs moving. They may not even see it or realize that it’s there, and unless it’s hidden away safely, somebody might sit on it, and then you’d have an iPod pancake.

So why not use a Wedding DJ? Having a living, breathing person to actively play your music, take request and interact is the most efficient for a wedding reception. A good bandleader or DJ will be willing to sit down and discuss the music you want. Be sure to include music for the tastes of all your guests. Remember great-grandma as well as your own friends. Choose songs for any special dances such as the bride and groom’s first dance, a dad-and-daughter dance, or a mother-and-son dance. Most DJ’s have an extensive selection of music of all genre’s and will help you choose a suitable play list.

If you are planning a family wedding with many children in attendance, think about hiring special entertainment for them. Keep in mind that a magician in a tux may be better suited to the atmosphere of a wedding than a clown in over-sized shoes. Organize Thoroughly

Usually, this cannot be blamed on the type of guests you invite, your significant other or the wedding party. It is far more likely that the lack of celebration at your reception is due to the hired entertainment.

When you begin your wedding planning, hiring a DJ or a band is probably the last priority on the list, after the dresses, venue, guest list, food, and bachelor/bachelorette parties of course! Not all couples will even consider searching for a DJ at all. Perhaps they are more traditional, or classical if you will. But that is no reason that a DJ cannot be hired instead of that overpriced string quartet you were considering. Not all DJ’s are immediately super cheesy either, though some people find this type of reception entertainment enjoyable. Basically, a good DJ will be what you want them to be.

When choosing your wedding DJ, there are many factors to take into consideration. First of all, determine the budget that you have set aside for entertainment. A good DJ company, such as Party Events Unlimited, will not just have “off the shelf” pricing. A number of factors will determine your price and they will work with you to meet your financial needs.

Secondly, you need to research your DJ. Do they have a plethora of events that they work? The more occasions that the company can do shows that there is definitely more experience under their belts. The experience should be obvious if they offer customer phone numbers in order for you to get testimonials. Any mobile disco DJ should offer you customer reviews; if they do not, be leery.

A good wedding entertainment company should provide a variety of music; disco, pop, classical, blues, jazz, etc., and offer you an extensive playbook. It is important to remember that they’re a few types of DJ; Radio DJs, Club and Bar DJs, and mobile DJs. This page is referring to mobile DJs; The typical mobile DJ provides their own sound and lighting equipment together with music and often a charismatic host to entertain guests at weddings, birthdays, school prom, parties and all types of other events.

Spending the extra time doing your research into your DJ can help protect yourself from the cowboy DJ also known to many as £60 Sid… Sid is the DJ who is happy to perform for a night for £60, but of course we all know that a £60 mobile disco cannot be any where near the high quality standards of a mobile DJ that charges in the hundreds, after all you get what you pay for.

There are a few basic things that you should bear in mind when booking that the wedding entertainment, 18th birthday DJ or School Prom mobile nightclub Disco, that will ensure you not only you get a DJ that won’t cancel on you 2 days before the event (like Sid), but one that will in fact spend time with you planning your function and making sure your night is a special night for everyone to remember!

To start with Public Liability Insurance, or PLI, is an insurance policy which you should expect your DJ to have. This policy not only covers the DJ for any damages to the venue but also protects your guests if somehow there is an accident with equipment. In many cases these days a lot of function rooms require to see a copy of your DJs certificate, so don’t be afraid to ask about this and maybe do a quick check on the company it’s provided by, just to be extra safe (Our PLI can be seen here).

Electrical testing is one that goes along side with PLI, as most PLIs require equipment to be tested in order to validate the policy. This official test is called Portable Appliance Testing, or PAT testing for short. PAT testing ensures that the electrical equipment being used by your DJ meets a set of safety standards, leaving no room for mishaps. It is also perfectly acceptable to ask for a copy of this from your DJ, ours can be seen here.

Did you know that there any organisations and associations that represent DJs and mobile discos? One example of such a body is SEDA (South-east England DJ Associate), this is an organisation which we belong to. There are certain standards which members must comply with in order to join, all of which should help give you peace of mind knowing that the entertainer upholds a high level of professionalism.
